SDGs
Among the 17 goals set out in the SDGs, Social Development Goals, JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration has conducted business that contributes particularly to Goal 7 "Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all," Goal 9 "Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation," and Goal 13 "Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts."
In this context, we are forging ahead with environmentally conscious business that is based on technologies called CCUS, Carbon dioxide Capture, Utilization and Storage. Specifically, our Petra Nova CCUS project has been in operation in the United States, that concurrently reduces CO2 emissions and increases crude oil production. We have been also conducting joint studies both in Indonesia and Malaysia with the respective state oil companies.
Other ways in which we contribute to realization of SDGs include reducing greenhouse gas emissions by producing natural gas; engaging in environmental and safety activities at our exploration, development, and production sites; promoting work-life management and advancement of women in the workplace; and engaging in social contribution activities in Japan and abroad.
What is the SDGs?
SDGs is an abbreviation of Sustainable Development Goals. They consist of 17 goals and 169 targets that were set forth in the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development," that was adopted by the UN Sustainable Development Summit in 2015, and serve as the international goals to realize a better and sustainable world by 2030. The SDGs is the universal initiative that is applicable not only to developing countries but also developed countries, and pledge to "leave no one behind" in the world.
