Operations Safety

Operations Safety

We are proud of our outstanding HSE performance, and our record of no fatality, no multiple LTI (lost-time injury) accident or no major oil spill incidents for several decades.

Safety Incident Statistics for 2011 - 2015

Safety Incident Statistics for 2011 - 2015

Each stage of oil and gas operation presents different HSE risks. We assess these at the outset of each operation through processes such as a safety case, an operations program, a safety management system bridging document, an environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA), an emergency response plan, an oil spill response plan and various HSE audits and/or inspections.

Identified HSE risks are communicated to all personnel working at our operations sites through HSE awareness training, HSE meetings at operations sites and/or tool box meetings. The risks are then mitigated by application of operational control tools such as STOP (Safety Training Observation Program) cards, job safety analysis and/or permit-to-work measures.

Senior management at each branch office assess the competency of individual staff members working on operations sites and work out necessary HSE trainings for them to perform their assigned tasks safely and with minimal environmental impact.

Notes:

※1Lost Time Injury Frequency(LTIF): Number of work-related Lost Time Injuries (Fatalities + Lost workday cases) per million man-hours.

※2Total Recordable Injury Rate (TRIR): Number of work-related recordable Injuries (Fatalities + Lost workday Cases + Restricted Workday Cases + Medical Treatment Cases) per million man-hours.

Safety Operation Award

We have received many HSE awards over the years from local governments and regulatory authorities for our Zero LTI record and our continuous HSE efforts.

In 2014 JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Malaysia) Ltd, which operates the Helang gas field in offshore Malaysia, received the Sarawak Chief Minister's Environmental Award - Gold for its active contribution to environmental conservation. Japan Vietnam Petroleum Company, which operates Rang Dong oil field in offshore Vietnam, received safety awards from the local government of Ba Ria-Vung Tau in 2014 and 2015 for its continuous safe operation. In 2015 the technical staff at Nakajo gas field were honored by the Japanese regulatory authority for their outstanding performance in safe operations.

JX Nippon is a proud shareholder of Abu Dhabi Oil Co Ltd (Japan), which operates offshore oil fields such as the Mubarraz Oil Field in the United Arab Emirates. This company, too, has received many HSE awards from the state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). In 2015 the company won ADNOC's HSE Performance Award for its HSE contributions throughout the year. Another standout achievement was being named supreme winner in the 2000 HSE Awards for its Sour Gas Injection and Zero Gas Flaring Project.

In 2014 we introduced our own In-house Safety Operation Awards to reaffirm our commitment to safety operations and to further promote safety at company worksites. Recognition was given to five branch offices who achieved Zero LTI during 2014.
